This is the first in a series of blog posts that I will be writing about Applescript. Applescript is basically just a very easy automation language just for mac. With it you can make your very own Applications and automation programs. It is similar to English and the commands are fairly basic. So to start open applescript...

In Snow Leopard it will be called "AppleScript Editor" and in all versions of OS X before snow leopard, it will be called "Script Editor". Once you have opened applescript, you should see a window similar to the one above -
As you can see, there are 5 buttons on top. The ones you need to know about are -
1. Compile - Compiles your script. Checks for errors and tells you whether or not it will work.
2. Run - Runs the script. Its useful to test the application and see whether its doing what you want it to.
3. Stop - Stops running the application.
