Generally, when I use a mac, it's on very rare occassions that I reach out to hold the mouse. In fact, sometimes when the battery of the magic mouse dies, I don't bother replacing them for quite a while. Mostly everything I do, I use the keyboard and this habit of mine increases my speed on the mac exponentially.
One of the few things we have to use our mouse for is navigating. Either to click on the spotlight button on the top right, to open a new finder window, to open a folder, to open a file, etc. Some easy tricks to remember and try and make a habit are -
To quit an application - Command+Q
To close a window - Command+W
To open a new window / file in Finder, Safari, Word, Pages and most other applications - Command+N
To open Spotlight - Command+Space
To open a folder / file while navigating in Finder - Command+DownArrowKey
To cycle between different applications - Command+Tab
To cycle between different windows of the samme application - Command+`
To cycle between different tabs in Safari - Control+Tab
To focus on (select) the dock - Fn+Control+f3
To focus on (select) the menubar - Fn+Control+f2
To Shutdown / Restart / Sleep your mac - Control+Eject
