Change File / Application / Folder Icons Yourself

Default icons seem a bit dull after a while, don't they ? Well, of course you could use some software to change them but then you HAVE to choose a package. Why not just change "some" icons yourself ?

To change the icons yourself -

1. Download an icon for your file / folder from google images or iconfinder.com or you could make the icon yourself using some software such as Photoshop.

2. Next open said icon with "Preview", the default app to open images.

3. Now highlight the part of the image you want to use in your icon or if you want to use the entire image as the icon, press command-A
4. Now copy this selection and close preview.

5. Select the file or folder whose icon you want to change. Right click and click "Get Info" or simply press   "Command-I

6. Click on the current icon of the file/folder on the top-right and paste the icon by pressing command-V
