Convert any file with the ability of being printed into a PDF. To do this, open any such file - be it a document, spreadsheet, powerpoint, keynote, picture or even a Webpage. Click File --> Print.
Now click on the button that says PDF at the bottom-right of the window that pops up.
Now choose what you want to do after converting it to a PDF.
The easiest is to just click "Save as PDF" but you can choose any.
A cool tip: Click "iTunes" to save it in iTunes as a "Book". This way when you next sync your iPad, iPod Touch, iPhone running iOS 4, it will get synced and will be available to read in iBooks.
