System preferences on Mac OS X is an application with all your general settings. In other words, it's like "Control panel" on Windows. To go to System Preferences you can -1. Search for it in spotlight search ( top right corner of screen )
2. Click on the Apple button in the menubar ( top left corner of screen )
3. Click on it in the dock.
