The release of OS X Mountain Lion was announced last week on the 16th of February. The theme of this update to Mac's operating system is "iOS-ification"

If you've been on the Apple website, you probably already know about most of the major changes and features of Mountain Lion ( Mac OS 10.8 ) that Apple is advertising. Notes, Reminders, Notifications Center, the works. But that's just a few of them.

With a little poking about, I've compiled a list of all the new tweaks and changes in Mountain Lion that I could find. Here it is -

Mac OS X 10.8 or Mountain Lion - Apple's new operating system - has been incorporated with a variety of new features many of these borrowed from iOS.

iPhone 5 and iOS 5 Release Date

This article is mostly for those who read about the September 7th deadline for the release of iOS 5 and the iPhone 5. Clearly, that was incorrect. While there is no official news about the newest iPhone from Apple, it is expected to be released on October 10th or 13th either along with or a few days after the release of iOS 5. While iOS 5 has already been released in a keynote. Apple has yet to hold an event for the release of the iPhone 5 and based on their history of past releases, its likely to be scheduled a few days after iOS 5 is made available on Apple.com as a free download. Developers ( The ones who have paid $99 to develop iPhone applications ) can already download the beta version of iOS 5. The complete list of new features to be introduced in iOS 5 can be seen here

Notification Center: New Notification System
Improved app notifications at the top
Lock screen notifications. Swipe will open related app.
Notification options to choose for each app.
Notification sorting by app, time etc.
iMessage: Text messaging between iOS devices over Wi-Fi or 3G (Similar to WhatsApp)
Newstand: Similar to iBooks to store, auto-download magazine subscriptions & new issues.
Reminders: A list of reminders with Geo-fence integrated with Calendar app
Twitter Integration: Log in to Twitter from settings once and Tweet anything from Safri, Photos, YouTube etc. Similar to login & sharing used by Mail.app

iOS Devices Sold

The touchscreen devices ( The iPod, iPad and iPod Touch ) which have managed to find their way into the houses of 200 million customers ( estimated ) are the foundation of all other capacitative touchscreen devices.

- More than 14 Billion applications for these devices have been sold via the iTunes App Store. - On an average, that's roughly 70 apps per device sold.

- More than 225 Million customers have iTunes App Store ID's with credit card information.

- ( That's more than the number of Devices Sold ).

- More than 130 Million books have been sold on the iBookstore

- 25 Million iPads have been sold to date.

- Roughly 80 Million iPod Touches and 225 Million iPod ( Difficult to be sure )

- And approximately ( probably more than ) 88 Million iPhones sold till date

- The iPhone 4 is the 2nd most popular camera device according to Flickr

No Jailbreaking iOS 5 on iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch

iOS 5 which as we know, is the most advanced software update for iOS Devices ( iPad, iPhone, iPod Touch ) so far. However it will not be released by Apple until this fall. Apple developers on the other hand can download it today. And as rumour has it, Apple's latest software update will not allow downgrading to previous versions of iOS. Now our best guess is that this is Apple's attempt to prevent Jailbreaking and if a Jailbreak isn't released for iOS 5, this may result in us having to choose between Jailbreaking and iOS 5.

The iPad Tip Series 6 - Power off

To power off an iPad or any other iOS Device ( iPhone, iPod Touch ), long press the Power / Sleep button located on top of your iPad ( right hand side ). A small screen will slide down from the top saying "slide to power off" and done.

The iPad Tip Series 6 - Rotation Lock on iPad

The rotation lock disables iPad from automatically switching orientation upon detection through its sensors. However, it will not disable usage of the accelerometer. So you can still play games which include motion controls. To use the simply flick the switch on the right hand side of your iPad. Alternatively, double press the home button to activate multitasking slide the bottom panel bar towards the right. And touch the rotation lock button.

iPhone 5 - Features and Release Date ( Rumoured, Expected )

The iPhone. A revolution in technology ? Maybe you disagree ( Feel free to voice your opinion below ) Either way, one of the more frequently searched terms on google is about the new iPhone 5 with more than 6 million searches in a month. Curved Glass Display on iPhone 5 ( Rumoured, Expected )

One of the strongest rumors about the iPhone 5 is that it will have a curved glass display. This rumour is floating around based on an article in a taiwanese newspaper saying that Apple had recently ordered glass cutting machines with the capability to carve glass. The iPod nano is one of the few devices with a curved screen display. However another possibility is that Apple plans to make the back of it's device with curved screen display. ( Another one of their attempts to make the iPhone thinner )

iOS 5 Release Date ( Expected, Rumoured )

When is iOS 5 Releasing ? Apple says "this fall" but nothing more specific. However, judging by the fact that Apple tends to release its newest software along with their newest piece of Hardware, we suspect that it will be released it September along with iPhone 5 ( Assuming that's what it's called ). Our best Release Date prediction in September 7th, 2011 ( CNET Tech UK )

The iPad Tip Series 5 - Take a Screenshot

Take a snapshot of your entire iPad Screen. Simply press the Home Button and Sleep / Power Button simultaneously and it will get saved to your photos app in the album "Saved Photos"

The iPad Tip Series 4 - Create Folders

To create a folder in iOS on iPad, touch and hold an app until it starts shaking ( vibrating ). Then touch and hold the app again and drag it into another app. A folder will be created and name automatically based on the genre of your apps. Add more apps to the folders in the same way.

Search the entire contents of your iPad using Spotlight Search. Place one finger on the screen, touch and drag the home screen towards the right to reveal the spotlight search.

To multitask on iPad, simply double press the Home button and a bar will pop up from underneath reveal all the currently active applications. To switch to one, simply touch the app's icon. To close them touch and hold on any one and then touch the little red 'minus' button on any app. To close the bar simply tap anywhere else on the screen or press the home button again.
